Mark’s Top 5 Christmas Movies

In no particular order:

  1. Mickey’s Christmas Carol (1983)
We’ve all seen it. If you were born after 1980, this was probably your first non-muppet related introduction to the works of Charles Dickens.
  2. Batman Returns (1992)
Tim Burton’s final attempt at a sequel is all about Christmas…and corrupt businessmen and politicians trying to take over an already corrupt city. But it’s a very Batman Christmas.
  3. Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang (2005)
Robert Downey Jr. and Val Kilmer as a criminal (pretending to be an actor) and a private detective who investigate a murder mystery…at Christmas. It’s underrated but I love everything about this movie. Val Kilmer steals every scene he is in. In my opinion this is Kilmer’s best movie and the start of RDJ’s comeback.
  4. Ernest Saves Christmas (1988)
Possibly the best of the Ernest movies (aside from Ernest Scared Stupid and Ernest Goes To Jail). If you’re a child of the 80s, you probably saw it a half dozen times and remember it fondly.
  5. National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (1989) Home Alone (1990)
The golden age of the Christmas movies really was in the 1980s, wasn’t it? Back then Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid were still funny. It was a different time. Fuck it. Go watch Home Alone instead. At least the whole family can enjoy it without knowing you’re supporting Chevy Chase.
